Aconitum, commonly called monkshood, is really beautiful and unique flower which is widely used as the cottage garden flower. This fascinating cold blue, purple -colored flower stands for Chivalry, beware, a deadly foe is near.

The distinctive characteristic of this plant is its poisonous nature. Monkshood originates from Europe and Asia. Its formal name is Aconitum napellus. The plant is the representative of the Ranunculaceae family. In addition it is native with such popular garden flower as delphinium. Some refer the flower to wolfsbane. The blossoms of Aconitum occur on straight spikes and may reach up to 4 feet.

Monkshood is available from April up to October. If it is cut out it lasts for 5-10 days.

The flower is widely used in floral designs. However due to its poisonous nature and toxins it is vitally important to wash the hands very carefully. One can see it in vertical floral arrangements and in funeral tributes as well.
