The common names of this flower are Pheasant's Eye, Flower of Adonis and Birdseye.
The flower got its name form the Greek mythology. The myth has it that Ares loved Aphrodite who was the goddess of love. Aphrodite liked a young Adonis. Being too jealous, Ares turned out Adonis into a wild boar. Bit kind goddess transferred Adonis’ limp body into a nice flower that now is known as the Adonis.
The stems of these attractive flowers can reach up to 2 inch. The blooms look like big buttercups. Its blooms are available in early summer and can only be found in yellow color. The cut plant will enjoy the vase life for 5 - 6 days.
In Japan there is a tradition to add Adonis amurensis as special New Year's Day component of the floral arrangements. It is called Fuku-jyu meaning a happy and long life.
