Basic Designs In Making Flower Arrangements

One can come across three key designs for flower arrangements that are Line Arrangements, Mass Arrangements and Line-mass Arrangements. Thus, all the flower arrangements can be based on one of the above-mentioned designs or just derived from them.

•    Line Floral Arrangement is distinctive by emphasis on Lines.
Designs made up primarily of line material are characterized by small number of blooms and foliage set up in the focal area. The open form accentuates the beauty of the plant material. A bare branch or just a piece of ornamental wood makes a clear line design. Everything that is required for achieving dramatic effect is just some blooms and little foliage.

•    Mass Floral Arrangement can be created is such shapes as oval, circular, fan or triangular. This design is characterized by an abundance of flowers. A good example of Mass Flower design makes a mixture of flowers placed in an embellished china vase. The complete appearance of this arrangement looks full and elegant indeed.

•    Line-mass Floral Arrangement is notable by using a mass for a larger feeling of depth. Plant material is typically set up to make a neat outline and massed to make a focal area with bit-by-bit changes from line at the periphery of the arrangement to mass within the central axis.  Open forms with symmetrical or asymmetrical balance are also typical to this design.
