•    The name Erythrina stands for coral tree from the Greek word for red.

•    The bloom of Cockspur coral tree flower is the national flower of Argentina and Uruguay. It was assigned as the National Flower of Argentina on the 2nd of December, 1942.

•    In addition, the plant is the official city tree of Los Angeles, California where it is commonly known as the coral tree.

•    Erythrina has alkaloids that are notable by strong narcotic and purgative effects.

•    Seeds of all Erythrina species are recognized as poisonous if broken.

•    The spines of coral tree are capable to snag clothes and even skin.

•    The plant’s wood is valued as it is light and porous; and it is widely used in construction of rafts, model aircrafts and beehives.
