•    Pansies are valued by many gardeners by their pleasing scent and attractive flowers that can be consumed.

•    Pansy is popular amongst the flower enthusiasts as they are very easy-to grow plants. Pansies grown from seed or bedding plants are comparatively disease and pest free.

•    The pansy is closely related to the viola as it is its ancestor.

•    Pansy blooms come in three major color patterns. The 1st pattern includes single flowers with clear coloring like yellow or blue. The 2nd pattern is a sole color featuring black lines running from its center. The lines are named penciling and look the same as the markings of viola flowers. The 3rd pattern is the most common with a dark center named a “face”.

•    Some pansies are remarkable by a perfume-like scent. They appear to be more fragrant at early morning and dusk. It is considered that the flowers in yellow or blue own the strongest smell.

•    The pansy foliage and blooms can be consumed; they are rich in vitamins A and C. Due to strong flavor of some pansy varieties the plants have been used in syrup making; in addition they served as flavor for honey and salads.

•     Today pansy foliage and blossoms can serve as lovely decoration for cold fruit or cream soups. Beside of the pansy flowers can serve as a dye.
