Line, Mass and Filler Flowers

Sometimes we even cannot imagine how much various types of blooms and foliage are mixed to create splendid bouquets. Blossoms have certain shapes, scents and coloring. In floral arrangement art the flowers can be broadly divided into line, mass and filler ones.

Line Flowers are long plants providing the nosegay with height, width, and a balanced display. The majority of line flowers bear buds emerging atop a center stalk. Among popular line flowers are stocks, gladioli, liatrises, tuberoses, snapdragons, curly willows, veronicas and other blooms looking outstanding if are put in a long cylindrical vase. Branches and tall leaves are also used as line flowers.

Mass Flowers are those giving the flower arrangement mass and typically come with round and full flower heads. Such flowers capture one’s attention by their beauty and emphasize the color and interest in a nosegay. Mass flowers mainly have the sole bloom on the end of the stem. Among such are chrysanthemums, roses, proteas, carnations, zinnias, gerberas, lilies, freesias, sunflowers, daffodils and others.

Filler Flowers and foliage usually round out the nosegay, giving it a delicate and full appearance.  Filler flowers are those bearing plenty of little blooms. Among such flowers and foliage are baby’s breath, heathers, feverfews, Queen Anne’s laces, ferns, eucalyptus and others. Several sprigs of filler flowers placed in a vase are capable to add a sense of plain elegance to any corner of your home. By the way, the majority of filler flowers make perfect dried flowers.
