Rose Garden Care

Rose GardeningIf you follow some plain steps, rose gardening can be not so difficult at all.  It is important to know that rose bushes prefer plenty of sun and nutrients in soil they grow. Beside of, they require ample watering at first and fertilizer. Their roots should not dry out and grow well in a well drained soil.

Pruning in Spring
Rose bushes have to be pruned in the springtime when set up growth starts. One should trim bad or dead shoots to ground level and remove any decaying foliage. To achieve the better results, remove the crossing shoots and cut back to 4-5 hardy canes. They can be trimmed back to the above bud, facing outward.

Care in the Growing Season
Rose bushes require not less than 2 gallons of water one time a week. The rose gardening will also be more flourishing if to give a lot of water to early plants.

The newly planted rose bushes should be supplied by a shot of fertilizer following their first flowering period. It is essential to feed the plant for a second time prior their active flowering period (it usually takes place in June). One should fertilize the rose bushes again in the middle of July.  Do not water the plants in the early fall as they will not tolerate the winter conditions.

Care in the Winter Season
With the winter approaching, the canes should be trimmed back to nearly 3 feet; the dead foliage should be removed as well.  The soil around the vase of the rose plant should be mounded up to 1 foot high. It will defend the roots from jumps in temperature.

Diseases and pests
For eliminating the plant’s disease you should use sprays. There are plenty of such.  A lot of diseases can be treated by anti-transpirants and sulfur-based fungicides.  For controlling powdery mildew one can use a mixture of baking soda and horticultural oil.  It should be noted that if to spray water it can prevent a lot of problems with spider mites and aphids. It is better to spray the rose bushes in the morning so they could dry out during the day.
