People from the most parts of America suffer from strong freeze, causing an uncommon phenomenon of ice flowers appearing from the ground.
These delicate petals of ice emerge embodied around the dried-out stems of some plants. Being very thin they seem to be lucent on sunlight, melting once they are touched by it.
Varying in dimension from a golf ball to a grapefruit, these dainty icy whorls appear to come up from Verbesina virginica and Helianthemum canadense.
For two centuries many scientists have been puzzled by ice flowers. It is believed that the frozen sap inside the stem burst it as if a frozen water pipe.
