The World’s Largest Individual Flower

Rafflesia ArnoldiiThis flowering plant can be found just in the rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo in the Malay Archipelago. It is recognized as the plant with the largest individual bloom, at least when if being judged by weight.

Rafflesia arnoldii  is the very plant, bearing the flower in diameter of almost 1 m or 3 feet  and is capable to weigh up to 11 kilograms or 24 lb. What is interesting indeed that it has no observable leaves, stems or even roots.

The flower is a sole part of the plant that can be identified as distinctly plant-like. But even its flower looks quite uncommon due to its big proportions, reddish-brown color and stink of rotting flesh.
