Having the botanical name of Oenothera biennis, Evening primrose belongs to the family Onagraceae. It is also commonly known as Evening star, Suncup, Sundrop.
The genus comprises more than125 species of annual, biennial and perennial herbaceous flowering plants. Al the species inhabit in North and South America, Asia and Europe.
Its varieties differ in size ranging the flowering plants with the length of 10 cm tall to the one in the length of 3 meters. The plants’ are distinguished by dentate or deeply lobed leaves.
The blossoms of the Evening primrose open in the evening or at night; that is why the plant got such name. They are four- petalled. The bloom is notable by the X-shaped stigma with four branches.
The majority of its species have lemon color. However one can come across the flowers in white, purple, pink and red in a few.
