Japanese Zelkova

The botanical name of the plant is Zelkova serrata. It is the representative of the elm family. The Japanese zelkova is capable to reach up to 80 feet high; it is notable by the similar shape as a mature American elm. The plant bears glossy, green leaves with the general look of tiny-leafed elm.

In the autumn time the large tree has a rusted yellow display while several varieties like ‘Village Green' or ‘Spring Grove’ come in wine-red shade. The plant’s blooms are invisible.

Japanese Zelkova was introduced to America by Dr. Robert Hall in late 19th century. Japanese Zelkovas were brought from Japan, being recognized as satisfactory gardening plants.
