Narcissus - Daffodils
Narcissus represents the Amaryllidaceae family. It got its name after Narcissus, a young boy in Greek mythology. According to Greek myth he fell in love with his own reflection and gods made him a flower. Narcissuses originate from Europe, North America and western Asia. These blooms are immensely odorous.
Certain ingested parts of the flower have poisonous nature. The floral substance named Galanthines today is being used in medicine for Alzheimer's cure. Narcissus represents the broad botanical term for the plants that are known as daffodils, narcissuses and paper whites. Daffodils are single flowers in the shape of trumpet; paper whites are small white-colored flowers growing in clusters.
The term narcissus relates to the rest of species. These lively spring bulb blooms are distinguished by broad-ranging colors, sizes and shapes. Their colors are white, cream, yellow, orange; bi-colored flowers are also can be met. A yellow daffodil symbolizes rebirth - that is a token of the new spring beginnings. It is the flower for those born in March. It is believed that the flower makes lucky anyone who does not trample on it. Narcissus means affection returned, sympathy, desire and’ love me’.
The blooms are available from October till April. The cut flowers will enjoy vase life for about 3-6 days.
Daffodils are often used in nosegays by themselves or in mixed spring arrangements.
