Orchid
Meaning: An orchid signifies love, elegance and luxury. Due to its external display it is also a symbol of strength. According to the ancient Greeks, orchids mean manliness.
This glorious flower is the representative of the family Orchidaceae. It is commonly known as Ladies' Fingers and Ladies. Orchid thieves in Asia, South and Central America. Its name is derived from the Greek word ‘orchis’ that means ‘testicle’ with reference of its bulbous roots’ form.
This one of the most beautiful flowers all over the world falls into three categories such as climbing, epiphytic and terrestrial. Botanically they are called parasites because they water and get nutritious food from wild trees, growing on them.
The world's biggest orchid has the length of 20m. In 1981 among the several varieties of well-known orchid ‘Agnes’ was selected to be the National Flower of Singapore.
The orchid is considered to be a bloom of magnificence conveying a universal message of love, elegance, and thoughtfulness.
A cut plant may enjoy the vase life for about 2 weeks.
