Protea




Proteas are distinguished by broad-ranging colors, shades and sizes.  Being a part of the Proteaceae family, it includes about 130 species of African shrubs. The unusual blooms are named in honor of Proteus, the Greek god, famous for his ability to transform into various shapes.

Pincushion Protea is a flower in the shape of a dome resembling a pincushion with pins in it. The plants' name is referred to the flower heads' varied shapes. Protea originates from South America being a wild plant there. Some flower’s common relatives are banksias, proteas, leucospermums and leucadendrons.


Protea is available at any season of the year in pink, orange, yellow, lime green and red. . The cut flowers may last for weeks in to care and handle them in a proper way. The blooms are extremely sensitive to cold and do not bear any temperature below 50 F.

The big-sized heads of some flower’s varieties represent a dramatic focal points in floral arrangements. They are commonly used in modern design or serve as filler for creating an exotic look. The florists value this flower for their bold forms and textures, vast variety of colors and long-lasting.
