Vervain

Belonging to the Verbena family, the plant is scientifically known as Verbena simplex . One can come across Vervain under other names such as Herba Sacra, Holy Plant, Herba Veneris, Herb of Enchantment, Ferfaen, Holy Wort and Herb Of The Cross.
The name Verbena wears the classical Roman name for altar plants. It is derived from the Celtic word ‘ferfaen’: ‘fer’ means ‘to drive away’ and ‘faen’ means ‘a stone’.
Vervain is usually found to grow in sunny areas, especially it thieves around limestone. The leaves of this flower are opposite and plain. The most of its species have spear-resembling leaves. They look hairy and densely. The Vervain blossoms are formed from five petals flourishing in dense spikes. They are small being available in such colors as blue, pink, purple and white.
This uncommon plant makes an insomnia tea. Being believed as a sacred herb, it makes one of the components of the sacred ointments for cleansing and defending against illness. It is often used in love potions.
