Xanthoceras
Xanthoceras sorbifolium is the botanical name of the plant that is more commonly known as Yellowhorn. It is the only species in the genus Xanthocera.
This flowering plant belongs to the family Sapindaceae, and originates from the northern China in the provinces of Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Liaoning, Nei Monggol, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Shandong.
It is either a big shrub or small-sized tree attaining the height of 8 m. It produces the leaves with alternative arrangement that are 12–30 cm long. They are composed of 9–17 leaflets; each leaflet has the length of 3–6 cm. They are notable by sharply serrated edges. The 5-petal blooms are 2–3 cm across.
They are borne in erect panicles 10–20 cm in length. The blooming time for this plant takes place in the middle of the summer season. The flowers are followed by an oval leather-like capsule dividing into three sections and containing from 6 to 18 black-colored seeds.
