Pineapple Lily



Pineapple Flower or Pineapple Lily are the common names of the flowering plant that is scientifically known as Eucomis autumnalis.

This stunning and uncommon plant is the representative of the hyacinth family and grows in southeastern southern Africa. It thrives on rocky and slopes rich with grass.

Pineapple lily is capable to attain the length up to 0,5-0,6 m. The summer growing bulbous plant produces the inflorescence that is a tight cylindrical raceme on a stout stalk.

It is made up of up to 125 star-like white to greenish blooms with a tuft of leaf-resembling bracts at the top.  The blooming time for this attractive plant takes place from the middle to the latter summer season.

The name Eucomis comes from the Greek word' eukomos' and means 'beautifully haired', referring to the tuft of leaf-resembling bracts crowning the flowering head.
