Despite economic malaise, flowers still popular

Despite of the fact the economic crisis can be noticeable almost in all spheres of the economical activities all over the world, it has had a restricted effect on Dutch flower and plant producers.
However according to the world’s biggest flower auction house FloraHolland, the year 2008 didn’t come true its expectations. The global malaise in economics resulted reduction of growth in 2008 from a planned 2.7 percent to 0.25 percent.
Turnover in 2008 was more than 4 billion euros and FloraHolland sold 12.4 billion different flowers and plants. Actually, in comparison to the past year an increase of 1.3 percent takes place.
According to the prediction of the company turnover in the year 2009 would increase by 1.0 percent. It states that a lot of people are selecting to lighten up their homes and lives with a bright, colorful bloom or plant in this economically hard time.
