Phalaenopsis Orchids
The orchid represents the largest family in the plant kingdom including about 25,000 known species. The height of the largest orchid in the world can reach 20 m. Phalaenopsis is the botanical name of a genus of about 60 species of orchids.
Its name Phalaenopsis comes from the Greek phalaina, meaning"moth" and opsis, meaning "like", referring to the orchids which are moths-like in flight. They originate from Southeast Asia, the Himalayan Mountains to the Philippians and northern Australia.
Phalaenopsis are flowers in the shape of moth or butterfly which are available in the following colors: white, pink, and purple; bi-colored orchids are also can be found.
One can get orchid any season of the year. As it is extremely delicate, the cut flower may last only for4-5 days. However the vase lasting of some certain varieties is up to two weeks.
This elegant and uncommon bloom is widely used in corsages and wedding work.
