Redbud
Redbud or Cercis Canadensis originates from the mainly eastern woody areas from south Texas to the Great Lakes and east to the Atlantic coast. Being a tree, the plant do not reaches a big height.
It typically has the shape of a vase, being very rarely more than 30 feet high and wide. Redbud does not live too long; its maximum life-lasting is about 35- 40 years. The plant bears green heart-shaped leaves. However today one can come across a form with purple foliage that is 'Forest Pansy' and with white leafed form that is 'Silver Cloud'.
Some plants, grown in the landscape, bear smaller, glossy leaves. Those are subspecies of the more popular form thieving in dry parts of Texas and Oklahoma. The well-known dark purple-bloomed selection is'Oklahoma'.
Redbud plant belongs to the pea family, having the majority of features of that family. The bloom has the shape of the pea, arising right from branches. They produce clusters of legume pods hanging on the tree during the whole winter season.
